Built in 1748 and situated on a group of islands off Helsinki, Suomenlinna will host the 4th sustainable summer school.
The fortress is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Finland’s most popular tourist attractions. Built on a cluster of rocky skerries, the fortress consists of an irregular network of bastions.
Suomenlinna is a unique monument of military architecture. It is owned by the State and administered by the Ministry of Education and Culture. The Governing Body of Suomenlinna is the agency that manages, restores and maintains the fortress.
WDC Helsinki 2012
Helsinki will be the Wolrd Design Capital 2012. With an emphasis on openness, continuity, collaboration and the social dimensions of design, there is going to be an very interesting program throughout the year, which fits really well to the topics of the sustainable summerschool.
